California Journey Day 7

So this will be our last day on the road. We are north of Los Angeles headed east to Krista’s house in Rancho Cucamonga/Fontana. We really enjoyed the coast of California and marvel at how it goes from the sea to the road and straight up the mountain. Beautiful coastline. Last year while visiting Fontana, Krista got us tickets to watch the Rose Bowl Parade floats being made from thousands of flower petals and seeds. To watch the Rose Bowl Parade we would have had to pay $60. or more for a reserved bleacher seat so we opted for the $7. ticket to watch the floats being assembled--way cool. That night Micheal told Jim about the great place he had missed in Pasadena called “Roscoe’s House of Chicken and Waffles” (which it turns out Jim had seen on the Food Network )and for a whole year Jim has drooled over the possibility of eating there. Needless to say, on the way through Pasadena this year, the GPs was set for Roscoe’s. It’s in a tough part of town, but there was every nationality of diner there you can imagine: African American, Asian, Indian, Italian and US. The fabulous waffles, fried chicken and grits were all served by our Tina Turner look-.alike waitress (we are close to Hollywood, after all). The freeway is a straight shot to Krista’s but is packed with traffic even on this weekday. We arrive to an empty house, but only have to wait a few minutes to see our Jessica come running down the street to greet us. She rides the bus from Middle School and walks home. Before we could get all our luggage inside we were greeted by Duncan, the Great Dane. Jim and I were both a bit apprehensive because he is sooooo big, but what a sweetheart. He immediately leaned up against us and touched his paw to us. That is said to mean, “I love you, now rub my back.” Jess showed us to our lovely, comfortable room which looks out at the beautiful mountains. Soon Krista arrived with Hannah from Elementary School and Micheal came in the door. We were all together again (NOW the seven of us). Life is Good. MA
